Los Angeles Community College District Awards More Than $5 Million in Design Contracts to Renovate 5 Colleges

Contracts will bring needed architectural design services to Mission, Valley, Pierce, Trade-Tech, and East LA Colleges as part of the $2.2 billion Proposition A/AA Bond Program

Nov. 22, 2006 (LOS ANGELES)As part of its ongoing program to renovate its nine colleges, the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) awarded $5.25 million in design contracts in October to firms for new facilities design, consulting, and logistical planning services at Mission, Valley, Pierce, Trade-Tech, and East Los Angeles Colleges. Each contract is the result of formal competitive bidding, and will be funded by the Proposition A/AA Bond Program, the $2.2 billion bond measures overwhelmingly approved by Los Angeles voters in 2001 and 2003.

"These design contracts will help provide new classroom and related spaces needed to educate the next generation of students in our communities," said Georgia L. Mercer, member of the LACCD Board of Trustees. "We are modernizing our campuses to prepare a future workforce ready to meet the economic needs of Los Angeles."

The Colleges’ Board of Trustees authorized the following design contracts in October 2006:

Programming services for the Culinary Arts building are scheduled for completion by December 2007.

East Los Angeles College: Horiuchi + Associates, a firm in Palo Alto, Calif., will receive $6,000 to provide design services for the G and H Buildings' – Mechanical and Electrical Upgrades project, which will add and replace air conditioning units in six buildings.
