Los Angeles Community Colleges Award More Than $3.7 Million to Local and Small Businesses for Campus Construction and Upgrade Projects

Contracts will bring needed construction services and upgrades at Los Angeles Mission, Pierce, Valley and Harbor Colleges as part of the $2.2 billion Proposition A and AA Bond program

Feb. 6, 2006 (LOS ANGELES) – The Los Angeles Community Colleges, consisting of nine Los Angeles-area colleges, announced today that it has awarded $3,767,617 in construction contracts to four separate local and small businesses for construction and upgrade projects at four of its colleges.  Each contract is the result of formal competitive bidding and will be funded by Propositions A and AA, as part of the $2.2 billion bond measure construction program overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2001 and 2003.

 

The Colleges’ Board of Trustees authorized the following construction contracts on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006:

 

Pierce College:  The Board of Trustees authorized an agreement with Cal-Pac Engineering Co., a small and local business based in Los Angeles, to provide construction services for the Temporary Facilities – Relocation, Acquisition project in the amount of $3,477,000.  Funding for this project is provided through Proposition A/AA Bond proceeds.

 

Valley College:  The Board of Trustees authorized an agreement with Tei-Tech Construction Inc., an emerging business based in Anaheim, Calif. for the Roadways, Walkways, Grounds, Parking Lots – Phase 1 – Marquee project in the amount of $252,876.  Funding for this project is provided through Proposition A/AA Bond proceeds. 

 

Mission College:  The Board of Trustees authorized a contract with Rudy’s General Construction, a local business based in Reseda, Calif. for the Roadways, Walkways, Grounds, Parking Lots – General Project in the amount of $27,650.  This project will provide for the procurement and installation of three pre-manufactured shuttle waiting shelters at Mission College.  This project is funded by Proposition A/AA Bond proceeds.

 

Mission College’s Student Parking Lot is currently closed for the construction of a modern, tri-level parking structure as part of the campus’ construction and modernization efforts, which are funded by the Los Angeles Community College District’s $2.2 billion Proposition A/AA Bond program.

 

Harbor College: The Board of Trustees authorized an agreement with Crescendo Electronics, Inc., based in Seal Beach, Calif. for the Northeast Academic Building – Classroom Village project in the amount of $9,991.  This project will allow for the fence and landscape removal and reinstallation project at Harbor College.  Funding for this project is through Proposition A/AA Bond proceeds.
