Los Angeles Community Colleges Award More Than $22 Million to Local and Small Businesses for Campus Construction and Upgrade Projects

Contracts will bring needed construction services and upgrades at Los Angeles Mission and Trade-Technical Colleges as part of the $2.2 billion Proposition A and AA Bond program

Los Angeles, CA

The Los Angeles Community Colleges, consisting of nine Los Angeles-area colleges, announced that it has awarded $22,163,400 in construction contracts to three separate local and small businesses for construction and upgrade projects at two of its colleges. Each contract is the result of formal competitive bidding and will be funded by Propositions A and AA, as part of the $2.2 billion bond measure construction program overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2001 and 2003.

The Colleges’ Board of Trustees authorized the following construction contracts on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005:

Mission College: The Board of Trustees authorized an agreement with DJM Construction, a local business based in Cerritos, Calif. for the Parking Structure A project in the amount of $19,085,000. This project will provide for the construction of a new parking structure to accommodate the campus’ projected increase in enrollment. Funding for this project is provided through Proposition A Bond proceeds.

The Board of Trustees also authorized an agreement with EMMA Corporation, a local business based in Santa Monica, Calif. for the Campus-Wide Infrastructure – General project in the amount of $2,830,000. Trade-Technical College: The Board of Trustees authorized an agreement with Kahromic Contracting, Inc., a small business based in Glendale, Calif. for the “Ceiling Mitigation Phase II” project at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College in the amount of $248,400. This project will allow for the construction of the final phase for a seismic retrofit of ceilings in buildings on the Trade-Technical campus. Partial funding for this project is through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) – additional funding is from Proposition AA proceeds as part of the Bond modernization projects.
