“LACCD [Los Angeles Community College District] Is First in U.S. to Receive BREEAM Certification” is a December 2, 2005, press release from LACCD. It describes the LACCD building project for a new Northeast Center of the Los Angeles City College, the first American building to receive certification from BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), a United Kingdom rating system. LACCD is also seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficient Design) certification; LEED, supported by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the American counterpart to BREEAM. The new building will generate a quarter of its energy on site and a sizeable share of that will be solar.
